How to sharpen the drill bit continued

You need is grinder which will sharpen the drill bit and that means that you will have to make sure that you use the correct grinder for the correct type of drill bit.

An electric bench grinder can be used for sharpening the drill bits. These grinders have the diamond grinding wheel or a carbon grinding wheel. Though the diamond grinding wheels are the best grinders.

These can be used to sharpen a wide variety of drill bits like the high spend steel bits or the masonry bits or the carbide bits and even the cobalt bits.

Make sure that you use the grinding guide to grind and also read all the instructions for lubrication. As well use goggles to protect your eyes from the flying particles.

How to sharpen a drill bit

The most important while using the drill bit is to know when to sharpen the drill bit and how to sharpen it. The best thing is that sharpening of drill bits is very important otherwise there is a serous danger of the drill bit being permanently damage.

The reason is simple that when the drill tip is not sharpened it will not get an easy foothold into the material and more than likely break.

Also it will generate more heat because of the reason that more surface area is in contact with the material being drilled generating more friction and heat. So make sure to sharpen and use the drill bit with utmost care

Poly Crystalline Diamonds – What are they?

Diamond is the hardest material that you can find on this earth and hence it is no chance that diamond is used as a material to make sure that bits are made of diamonds for various commercial or industrial uses.

Then comes the poly crystalline diamonds which are the actually special diamonds used only for making drilling bits.

Since diamond is expensive the only thing that of diamond in a diamond drill bit is the tip which is brazed to a tungsten carbide drill bit. Water is used to cool these while cutting tiles etc to avoid the heat from damaging the bit as well as the surface.

How it is manufactured

The most commonly used material used in drill bit construction is the steel but it is not the simple stainless steel that we get in our homes rather it is the low carbon steel or the HSS or the high speed steel.

The low carbon steel is used only in the woodworking whereas for hard materials the HSS is used as the heat generated is enough to destroy any other material.

The other materials used are tungsten carbide and diamond and also cobalt mixed steels. In most cases the high cost limits the entire drill to be of the same material and only the tip is used of special material.

What are drill bits

The drill bits are cutting tools which you use in a drill and that is used to make the cylindrical holes in surfaces such as the concrete or the glass or wood or even the ceramic tiles.

These drill bit or shanks are made up of the hardened steel and these have the tip which may or may not be made of a different material and is attached on to the tip of the drill so that the piercing action is strong enough especially when you are drilling the tougher holes like the one in concrete.

The glass or ceramics need special care while drilling to avoid breakage
